2018 One Goal at a Time

2018 One Goal at a Time

Well, it's the New Year 2018!

Time for resolutions, goals, all those things we are supposed to do yada, yada, yada! Heard it all before!

Let's get real. It's January 5th already and sure, I want to set some goals and get organized, but realistically, I do this every year and honestly, I never achieve it.

So this year, I've decided to do things differently than I have in the past. Instead of getting a big list of goals together starting with losing 20 pounds, going to the gym every day, eating better, etc. (sound familiar?) I decided to try this little formula instead.

1. Work on one goal at a time.
2. Write down your goal.
3. Give yourself a time frame.
4. Record your progress.
5. Have fun and go easy on yourself.

Work on one goal at a time
It's much easier to accomplish one goal if we devote all of our attention to that one thing. Think about it! If we had five goals going at the same time? It's much harder. I'm not saying that you can't accomplish five goals at the same time. I am saying that it is easier to accomplish one goal at a time versus juggling five goals at the same time.

Write Down Your Goal
Write the goal down in large letters and keep it in a place where you can see it every day! Having your goal written down is key for you to realize that YES, I want this! It gives you motivation to keep going and to see it written down in words is validation that "yes, I am working on this." Every time you see it, picture the end result! You can do this! Have a positive attitude. You will not quit!

Give Yourself a Time Frame
This timeframe will be key for your success.  Make sure that you really think through and give yourself enough time to complete this goal.

Record Your Progress

Recording your progress will be a huge asset. Going back to key points over the process will enable you to reflect upon the ups and downs, and it will give you strength to persevere through this journey. Write or record your progress each day to track your results!

Have Fun and Go Easy On Yourself
This is the last step and probably the hardest thing that people have the most difficulty with. I think it's because we are hardest on ourselves for some reason, at least I am!

For example, I look in the mirror some days and don't like what I see—I need this, I don't need that, etc. Why can't I just be satisfied with my body the way it is? I think even if I were the perfect weight, I'd still complain. Teri has always been the skinny sister but she has always hated to be called "skinny."  To her, it's like being called "fat." But I never thought of it that way until she let me know a few years ago, and it was a real eye-opener to me. To be called "skinny" to me would be a dream come true! Bring it on! But to Teri, it's a shaming thing. We have to be really careful with our words and how we call people things even if we think we are complimenting them by calling them "skinny," or "fat," which is not a compliment!

Hopefully I have inspired you to at least think about the new year and work on something you may want to be better at this year.

Your goal can be cleaning out a room or it can be reading a book from start to finish. Here are some ideas to learn and work on:
  • Be a better friend, a better cook, or a better person
  • Learn how to garden, how to take a better picture, how to dance, how to sew, or how to make bread
  • Smile more, be a little more kind, write a poem, learn to paint, exercise...the ideas are endless

This is a brand new 2018 and we are all in this together, one goal at a time.

Leave us a comment of what you are going to work on for 2018 or on our Instagram Account. We would love to hear from you.
