Wrapping Around the Christmas Tree: DIY Ideas

8 WEEKS UNTIL CHRISTMAS! But who says you have to wait any longer?

If you're like us, you've already pulled out the bins and boxes, and mayyyybe you've even put up a tree!

Sue has put up some trees already and has helped her daughter in Arizona decorate too! Teri likes to wait to decorate closer to Thanksgiving.

We love ALL holiday decorators, whether you start on November 1 or wait until the end of the month!

We also have some great WRAPPING ideas on the blog today!

I know what you're thinking . . . why can't I just get some cute wrapping paper and call it a day?

You can! But, there are SO many creative ways to add a more personal touch to your presents. And they look so great under the tree! Read on to see how we elevated our wrapping game this year.

Here are the stores we hit up for great wrapping paper and present supplies: Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and Michael's

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Wrapping paper—we went with neutrals like black, white, and brown paper. We also threw in some fun patterned paper. Whatever your preference, you can't go wrong!
  • Tape + Scissors
  • Ribbon or string—we found an assortment of patterned ribbon, plain ribbon, string, twine, and more!
  • Present accessories—this is where YOU can get CREATIVE! We used peppermint sticks, wood ornaments, faux branches, pom pom garlands, wool garlands, and more!

Don't Be Afraid of Color!
We used stripes, polka dots, blues, reds, and fun colors when wrapping. We love bright packaging and eye-popping colors!

Black is the New Black
Try a monochrome theme, like black-on-black or white ribbon with white wrapping paper. It's such a cool, modern look! We found inspiration on Pinterest and recreated some photos with darker wrapping paper.

Add On Accessories!
Think outside the box! Your present could use an ornament, sprig of leaves, or even candy to make it cuter. We saw so many accessory ideas online, like hand-drawn paper, stamps, paint swatch tags, and more!

Pom Poms + Peppermints
Homemade pompom garlands and giant peppermint sticks add another fun layer to our gift wrapping!

Don't forget to personalize with name tags!

MANTEL MAKEOVER

Fall is in the air, and we are getting our homes ready for all things pumpkin and spice! Hoping the weather in SoCal cooperates soon—it would be nice to be able to pull out those sweaters!

How about a good Mantel Refresh? We all love to decorate our homes with the new season that is rolling in. That is the fun part of home decor. With every new season comes new decor and a new fresh look for our homes.

Getting those bins out and sorting through what we have and deciding what we will use from last year and what we may want to add new this year is always a fun task!

We are going to show you a mantel refresh, only using things that we have around our home. We will use elements from the outside and things we have in our decor stash.

We DO NOT want to buy any new decor for this mantel refresh. We could go to one of our favorite stores and go crazy and get all new decor! BUT, we don't have to do it this time because we already have what we need from the outdoors and seriously, we have so much in our stash, it would be a crime not to use what we have.

So we are doing this refresh with NO MONEY! That's right—not spending a dime.

We have said it many times before and we will say it again, SHOP YOUR OWN HOME FIRST. Look around and see what you can use to make your mantel look like a fresh new space for Fall.

We used a collection of brass candlesticks and pulled a couple of white pumpkins from our fall bin and then added some tree branches from the outdoors to the top of the mantel and that pretty much did the trick.

We kept it simple and clean. The huge clock was already in place. Adding elements from the outdoors is a great option. Tree branches, garden flowers, or whatever you can find is perfect. It's your home, so add things that you love.

Here are the quick tips for your own Mantel Refresh:

1. Take everything off your mantel or shelves
2.  Get out your Fall bins/decor
3.  Shop your home for items you may use for the mantel or shelves
4.  Go outside and see what you can use for the space (take cutting shears)
5.  Start styling!
6.  Have FUN!

Show us what your mantel looks like after you have shopped your home! we would love to see what you have created.
Leave us a comment and tell us what you love most about Fall!

Baby Nursery Room Reveal!

I've been working on something fun for a few months now, and we can finally reveal it! My oldest daughter is pregnant with her first baby due in November!!

I'm a grandma to two beautiful girls from my son and daughter-in-law, so when I found out my daughter was pregnant after she had been trying for a while I was SO HAPPY.

And of course I immediately dreamt up some plans for the baby's room. Here's our "vision board" my daughter and I put together before the room began!

I partnered with some AMAZING businesses and brands to pull this room together, working with my daughter's vision, of course. She and her husband don't know the baby's gender yet (we find out July 5th that's the baby reveal, although she could find out sooner, but they want to wait for family to be there so they had the doctor put the gender in a sealed envelope) so we wanted to create a gender-neutral room with modern/boho vibes. I love a great gender neutral room anyway, so this was fun!

I LOVE this corner of the room! This is what you'll first see when coming into the room. And my eyes automatically go down to that gorgeous rug! It really ties the whole room together.
This rug is from Home Dynamix—they have so many options depending on your style preferences!

We chose this 8x10 from their New Weave collection
And it did not disappoint!

Home Dynamix has dozens of collections to browse through. You could scroll for hours and find so many beautiful rugs!

The quality is what I love the best—it has a great pile, cleans easily, and really feels like a quality rug.

This rug has beautiful creams, grays, blues, and pinks to neutralize the room.

You can see a part of the Opalhouse Llama basket we found at Target–it's a water hyacinth weave and it was only $25!

The other round basket was one my daughter already had, but I believe she bought it at Target a few years back. And of course we filled it with some stuffed animals—elephants are my daughter's favorite!

My daughter got the crib she wanted from Wayfair and the white dresser from IKEA to go opposite each other in the room. Instead of the regular black knobs on the dresser, she bought some beautiful gold pulls from Amazon! They were less than $20 for 12 handles!

My son-in-law is our handyman around here (check out my living room shiplap, bedroom shiplap, bedroom shelves, and farmhouse door projects he completed)

So when we say we want him to build something, he can do it! Seriously . . . show him a photo and say "Please?" and he's off to work! My daughter loved the natural bookshelves she saw on some Pinterest photos, so he built them for her to fit the wall! IKEA sells a similar bookshelf, but it's 27" long and these were about 38"!

We filled the bookshelves with some vintage books, some new ones, and everything in between. I love how they turned out! My daughter hung a cute onesie from LovedBaby from the bottom bookshelf using a hanger she bought from the $1 section at Target.

Then, we were able to partner with HelloBirdieBirdie. My daughter has been a huge fan of her baby mobiles, and we were able to get the Woodland Mobile for her baby's room! Her Etsy shop is so beautiful, and there are so many choices to choose from when it comes to baby mobiles.

Seriously, how adorable are these? The woodland mobile has a deer, polar bear, rabbit, squirrel, and dog! The packaging is adorable and came with a handwritten note.
My daughter was able to hang it herself using a 3M hook on the ceiling and set it at the height she wanted!

I can't get over how beautiful the little details are! They really bring the whole room together. And one piece that brings the room together is our incredible canvas print and wood hangers from Hanger Frames.

My daughter had found a digital print on Etsy she really wanted for the baby's room, and Hanger Frames was able to replicate it and print it on their high-quality canvas paper! We received the 20x30 print with their natural wood frame

The packaging is so beautiful and well done! The instructions were easy to follow and it even came with 3 different string types so you could choose which one to hang your frame with! Their options are great too because you can just buy wood frames if that's what you're looking for, or you can get photos/prints!

The piece really works beautifully over the crib as a focal point! The words are lyrics from a song by Andrew McMahon called "Cecilia and the Satellite."

Across from the crib, my daughter has her rocker from American Furniture Warehouse, the IKEA Hemnes Dresser with new hardware they added, a vintage accordion hanger I found for her at a garage sale, and a great mirror she got on sale at At Home for $20!

She is adding a few more prints/hangings to the room and hoping to find some great Etsy creators to bring some more boho/artsy vibes to the room, but so far the nursery is really coming along!

All the major decor pieces are in place, so now we just wait for baby to arrive!
